Macdonald Tickled Trout Hotel

On the banks of the River Ribble, The Macdonald Tickled Trout offers waterside views, free parking and a fine restaurant. Close to the M6, the hotel is 44 miles from the Lake District and just a 20-minute drive away from Preston, Blackpool and Liverpool. Ideally located if visiting loved ones at the University of Lancashire, University of Lancaster and University of Cumbria.

Most rooms at the Tickled Trout feature views of the river. Each room has a private bathroom, tea/coffee facilities, and a trouser press. Free WiFi is available throughout the property.

When booking the bed and breakfast options, a Full English breakfast is served each morning.

The restaurant serves regional and international cuisine using fresh, organic ingredients. The bar offers beverages and fine wines, and there is also a lounge. 24-hour room service is also available.

The Macdonald Tickled Trout is a short drive away from the Centre of Preston. Blackpool, Liverpool and Manchester can both be reached in a 20-minute drive. Ideally located for a family visit to the Blackpool Illuminations.

From Monday 25th July the road outside the hotel is going to close for 7 weeks in both directions. Guests are advised that access is via Junction 31 of M6 only

This property is not fully wheelchair accessible and there are no rooms with fully accessible features. All of the rooms are up or down stairs and the lift is located down eight steps.

Good

We enjoyed the views and the lake skimming the stone on the water and most importantly the company in a nice clean room.

The headboard was not attached to the wall properly and turning over in your sleep you could hear it bang. There was two members of staff who we had communication with and they were very rude and obnoxious.

They said we'd have to pay£22 each so we didn't get breakfast there yet we were there in July and didn't have pay extra for breakfast

Great value.

Fabulous staff, great location, a great flat white in the morning. Nice products in the room. Fridge in the room.

A little bit shabby, but good for the amount of stars. A few spider webs across the room- could have had a little more care. Could have done with plugs at both sides of the bed.

Nice hotel handy for Blackpool and surrounding areas with plenty of parking

Location perfect for accessing Blackpool without the hassle. Lovely spot beside the river we could watch the wildlife from the bar/restaurant. Staff very helpful

We arrived early but were able to check in however we were sent to a room at the furthest end of the hotel which was not heated and had a water issue with the toilet. We asked to be moved which the staff sorted without an issue to a warm room nearer to the main facilities.

Good

I'd booked a slightly larger room, which we received. Breakfast was included in our stay, and it was a delicious buffet-style option. Bar staff were friendly and tap options were good. The common areas (restaurant, bar, reception) were all clean, spacious, and well-decorated with plenty of seating options. The room had a beautiful view of the river behind it, and was well situated to access walking paths. Reception was helpful in offering contacts for taxi services as well.

Coffee bar was not open in the morning when we wanted it, and we had to go to the nearby petrol station instead. The room was not well cleaned; lamps and fans were dusty, and there was residue on the floor and walls of the bathroom. I did not feel comfortable walking in the room without slippers. The halls smelled like smoke, but thankfully the room wasn't too bad. All in all, it is OK for one night (e.g. if you're doing a walk), but I would not recommend it for multiple days or longer stays.

Our review of the Tickled Trout.

The hotel was very good, clean and tidy. The staff were helpful and friendly. All the food was good but we found it on the expensive side. The location was charming and we would return there.

We thought that the wine was over priced .

Good

We arrived later after a difficult car journey with lots of traffic on the M6. The hotel was very helpful and showed us to our room quite efficiently despite our very late arrival. We slept well and had a nice breakfast the next morning.

The breakfast room was a bit chilly, so waiting for food to arrive from the kitchen wasn't as pleasant as it could have been.

c'est la 3 ème fois que l'on s'arrête dans cet hôtel au long de notre voyage. Même s'il y aurait des rénovations à faire, c'est propre, confortable et le personnel agréable. Tout est bien.
